iPhone 3GS Available 10th July in New Zealand
Vodafone have officially announced the release date of the iPhone 3GS in New Zealand.
The iPhone 3GS will be on sale from Vodafone NZ from July 10. Pre-reg page up at www.Vodafone.co.NZ/iphone.
You can get your greasy little mitts on one on the 10th of July. While you wait, you can also pre-register on Vodafone’s website. There’s an annoying little price rise in there too unfortunately, but that’s the crap we have to deal with in a captive market like New Zealand.
16GB : $1,179.00
32GB : $1,379.00
On the upside, the remarkably talented hackers on the devteam are working on an unlock. This means any 3GS purchased internationally will work on both Vodafone and Telecom if you’re keen enough.

Speaking of greasy mitts..
I note that both the IP3Gs and the HTC Hero have ‘Oleophobic’ (sp?)smudge proof coatings on the screens.
Now I have always used screen protector film on smartphones/pdas to prevent scratches and (to a lesser extent) smudges.
I’d be interested to know whether the new coatings will still permit protector film to adhere.
Frankly, I’m more worried about scratches in an expensive touchscreen, than a smudged, easily replaceable film.
I was thinking about the grime-o-phobic screen when I was typing that too, but I hadn’t made the link to screen protectors.
Interestingly, there’s a bit of screen protector discussion going on. These guys even think that the oleophobia makes the screen more scratchable.
Never mind that device, how about the Palm WebOS handhelds? When are VF going to have them in?
Possibly never? Unless Palm get their sh1t together and release a non-CDMA version?
How do those prices compare to off-the-shelf prices in Oz?
Not sure about the Palm stuff – but that HTC Hero looks cool.
Oooh. Just checked.
AU$929 and AU$1129 respectively.
That works out to… NZ$1161 and NZ$1410
Not too different then…
Makes the HTC Magic pricing look a whole lot better now.
