Google buys YouTube.  Plenty of discussion about this on Techmeme and other sites, but here are my thoughts:

• Google is one of the few companies that can afford YouTube’s bandwidth bills.
• Google has current content deals that may legitimise some of YouTube’s copyright infringements.
• Lawsuits will be coming. Guaranteed. But there are just so many eyeballs/pageviews in this that the media companies would be silly to shoot themselves by pulling their content.
• Will someone please for the love of god improve Flash video compression?
