The much anticipated Android 1.6 'Donut' update arrived for me over the air yesterday.
Download and install were pretty painless and the phone came back up after reboot with no visible errors.
Initially things seemed fine, my email updates kicked in again, all my apps appeared to be there and some of the core apps had new versions.
I struck a major glitch on starting up the new camera app though, which force-closed almost immediately.
Some digging around seemed to indicate that any app that tried to access the SD card caused a Force Close. In the end I re-formatted the card using the Phone Settings and the issue went away. I din't have anything on there that wasn't backed up or dynamically synced, so no drama really.
Google maps is now version 3.1.2 but for some reason still doesn't orient to the compass in Map View like the iPhone 3Gs version does.
It's weird because it does orient in Street View. Looking at the installed app list in Settings, it appears that Street View is a discrete app, so maybe on the iPhone there is an add-on not supplied by Google.
