Hi Ben

My Uncle has got a new scanner which wont work because he needs service pack 3 for XP Home, but he has no access to the internet - I was wondering which file to download manually for him from my place while he is on holidays here, but the Micky$oft site isn't the most user friendly - it just takes me to a link saying to set update to on, on the computer, which is no use to me on my pc. There is this file

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers

Can I download this and put it onto CD for him - or is there another file that is the Service Pack 2 to 3 update to manually download onto a pc that doesn't need the update?

Many thanks
Michelle

The only ones i've seen around tend to be $500+ which is a little out of my price range at the moment.

I have been told that it is possible to get around this but the guy who said that can't remeber how. Any hints or ideas?

Hallo,
I often use Firefox, a great browser, and sometimes go to Tools - Options - Security - saved password to read and erase the passwords for the sites that I visit.
Do you know if there is a way to shorten this path, maybe insert something in the toolbar to speed up this task?
Thank you

Hi

I have recently bought an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC - installed with Vista. For some reason the quotation key does not display anything when the key is pressed once - if it is pressed twice two quote marks appear.

Anyone had this problem and know the fix??

It's a Seiko ladies watch with particulars mentioned: Japan Movt. 1N00 3G98 R 2 . Calibre nr: 1N00-0K50 (boxed in: RO ). TL with inderneath 368433 believed serial nr. If you know where to find it back I would love to hear from you. Takkita

Alright, no luck about the PAL region thing. Guess no one feels strongly about video games then. Am gonna try asking something else.

Does anyone feel that telcos should be regulated so consumers would get better rates and subsidies for their phones? Is everyone ok with the current charges for calls/texts/data on their respective networks? How about charges for cross-network calls/texts?

Hi all,

I'm currently studying for CCNA and am setting up a home lab using Cisco 2600 series routers. I'm wanting to know if anyone out there can help me with setting up internet connection so that I can practice setting up NAT on my Cisco router.

I have aquired a Dynalink RTA1320 modem/router with an ethernet connection to the Cisco router. I want to know how to disable the "router" and NAT part of this modem so that my Cisco router can do all of this instead. Also some pointers on the config required on the Cisco router would be good too.

My ISP is TelstraClear, not sure if this makes any difference or not. Any help appreciated, cheers.

Ben on "Why haven't you registered?"

Here's an interesting question for you all: why don't you register for this community? I know there are a lot more anonymous browsers and posts than registered.

Is it too niche? Is it just one more forum to manage? Is it not integrated with Bookface enough? Is there not enough content?

I'm thinking of doing something and I'd be interested in your feedback and/or suggestions. Here goes:

Add a rating engine to the forum so members can rate posts

Kick off a competition for members with $1500 worth of prizes (Squeezebox Duet, Garmin GPS, LG Bluetooth hands-free, iPod Touch, etc.)

One entry for being a member. One entry for having submitted at least one post or reply

Multiple entries for top-rated comments, perhaps one per "star"

Highest-rated member gets a prize.

Random winner gets most of the prizes, and gets to select another member as the recipient of one item (maybe the GPS). Think friend-get-friend.

The theory being to promote membership and (more importantly) good quality content.

I'm not going to lie to you: there's something in it for me. More content means more pageviews which means more chance for revenue so I can spend more time creating great content for the main site.

BUT also: I fricken love the content in here so far. I get a real thrill when I get those "there is a new post" emails in my inbox, and to date those posts have been brilliant. I mean check out Rob's Magic series for example.

So my question to you: shit idea? Good idea? And yes, I realise the irony of asking for a comment about asking for comments.
