Yep you're on the right track. That file will work, or even better the CD image provided here.

If you burn that image to a CD it should be really easy to pop it into his PC and install everything that is needed.

Hi Ben

My Uncle has got a new scanner which wont work because he needs service pack 3 for XP Home, but he has no access to the internet - I was wondering which file to download manually for him from my place while he is on holidays here, but the Micky$oft site isn't the most user friendly - it just takes me to a link saying to set update to on, on the computer, which is no use to me on my pc. There is this file

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers

Can I download this and put it onto CD for him - or is there another file that is the Service Pack 2 to 3 update to manually download onto a pc that doesn't need the update?

Many thanks
Michelle

I'm sure there must be. Perhaps there is a cordless phone that has Bluetooth so you can use a regular Bluetooth headset with it?

Or would something like this do the trick?

Meaning to speak on the land line hands free, with a headphone or earpiece and mic of course.

Should have it by the middle of the this week, should be able to get some serious caching in over the xmas period :)

Thanks for the all the help ben :D

I would quite like it to display maps.

The phone i have at the moment doesn't have GPS.

Hmm, i guess ill try hunt down a cheap HCx or one of the Oregon models.

Here's a nice comparison of the different models. The H is quite restricted, and doesn't display maps.

Having said that, it will still work fine for Geocaching.

Does your phone have GPS? You might be able to get cheap software for it to display coordinates which is all you need for basic geocaching.

There is a bunch of new ones on TradeMe for ~$200
(http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photography/GPS/Handheld/auction-256172551.htm)

Is the only difference between the H and the HCx the colour screen?
Or was the H a generation before the HCx?

What's your budget? I use an Etrex Vista. When combined with GSAK, you can upload heaps of Geocaching POIs onto it.

There's a couple on Trademe around $200-$250 right now. I use the HCx which is nice (H for high senstivity and C for colour).

Looking for something middle of the road with decent bang-for-buck.

The only ones i've seen around tend to be $500+ which is a little out of my price range at the moment.

Hey Kelly. My personal favourite is Logitech Squeezebox, but they're not hugely cheap. The Duet is fantastic though - comes with a WiFi remote so you can use it anywhere with reception, and displays album art etc on the remote.

There's also this thing at Ascent. Never used it, but heaps cheaper than a Squeezebox.

Sounds like you might have removed the drive without ejecting or stopping it first? Sadly it's an all too common problem.

There are a bunch of different programs that will attempt to recover the data for you. The trouble is filtering the wheat from the spam/chaff. This post has a few good suggestions: http://ask.metafilter.com/31869/How-to-recover-data-from-a-USB-key
