Eyecandy Doesn’t Come Cheap

NVida 7900GTXThe specs of the latest batch of NVidia cards are either impressive or depressing, depending on which way you look at it. 51 Gigabytes per second of memory is a fucking huge firehose by anyone’s estimation, but like any firehose you need a damn big pump to feed it. In this case we’re talking 120 Watts of power consumption, no doubt with heat output to match. SLI? Sure they can, but make that a double order of wattage with a side of small fan madness.

Where does it end? I’d love a PC that can render King Kong in realtime, but do I want to have to rewire my house so I can run it off the 30Amp stovetop circuit breaker?
