Robert Scoble has been raving about Memeorandum, a new aggregation site that claims:

The Web is humming with reports and opinions on technology. tech.memeorandum is page A1 for these discussions. Auto-updated every 5 minutes, it uncovers the most relevant items from thousands of news sites and weblogs.

I’m having trouble understanding how it decides what qualifies as front-page news. Does it rely on the quantity of posts linking to a parent, or does it scrape the Technorati top 100 or similar? Any ideas? I can’t see any explanation (or link to an explanation) on Memeorandum itself, which leaves me a little sceptical. Isn’t that sort of thing meant to be transparent so we can decide for ourselves whether to treat it as authoritative?

Update:
Ok, after following some random link from the Memeorandum homepage, I found this explanation of the source-picking. It seems to be mainly based on the quantity of links to a source. I’m assuming however that once one post by a source gets a bunch of links, then that source will be considered more authoritative for eternity?
