Google IM?

Update: And here it is: Google Talk. Looks like a nice client, I’m planning to try it tomorrow (NZ time).

There are a number of rumours floating around the internets today about the possibility of Google launching an instant messenger app. Not sure how much truth there is behind this, but some have reported being able to connect to a Jabber server at talk.google.com.

I for one would be happy with a Googlesque IM client: slim, fast, few ads; because the clients from the major players (e.g. MSN) have just become total bloatware.

Update: Yup, it’s for real. The Jabber server is live, now we’re just waiting to see what the Google client is like. My guess? How about a clean client with an adsense bar in it that changes depending on what you’re chatting about?
