Microsoft ‘Avalon’ UI available to public

January 15th, 2005

Interesting. Robert Scoble has just pointed out that the ‘technology preview’ for Avalon (Microsoft’s next-generation user interface) has been made available to the general public. The download has been available to MSDN subscribers for a couple of months, but Microsoft says:

It is our pleasure to release the same build to the general public in response to numerous requests.

I wonder if any of those requests involve people asking Microsoft “should I buy a Mac Mini, or wait another couple of years for the new features in Longhorn?”

In case you didn’t know about Avalon, apparently it allows you to create “differentiated user experiences that improve customer connection”. That’s great, but it leaves me wondering if I can build an application user interface with it. Gotta love that marketing-speak!
