[...] Audio output via the included headphones is sublime. Unfortunately the lack of 3.5mm headphone plug means you need to use the giant proprietary headphone adapter (which you?ll note is conveniently left out of any product images). I haven?t yet tried the FM transmitter, but expect it to suck about as badly as any 3rd party FM transmitter. [...]

[...] I should have known better, but I was hunting for a particular solution: an integrated car charger and line-out device for my iPhone. Please god do not at this point try to tell me I should use a FM transmitter. [...]

Love it! I was gonna do a piece on this myself, but you've saved me the effort. Word for word almost :) I'm looking forward to the bash-up of iPhones.

I have found that the FM transmitter works perfectly in some cars, but not others (in my wifes care, there is no static at all, but my car has plenty, and it does not matter what frequency I choose). I have also found that some newer cars do not have a cassette player. If you travel and rent cars, it is good to have both adapters.

Somewhere alongside the Autostrada about an hour south of Rome lies a small white piece of technological crap.

I snapped up an iTrip (the big one, not the mini, to suit the big ol' Series I iPod), intending to use it driving around Italy listening to the Big Night soundtrack rather than the horrific EuroClashMatic nonsense pumped out by commercial radio over there. I woulda taken our cassette adaptor but I was expecting the rental car to have a CD player, like it said in the brochure... [sfx: Italian Shrug]

Anyway... load up the car, load up the iPod, switch on the stereo and the iTrip, and... try again... changey changey fiddle whine fizz crackle fiddle fiddle crunch crackle... RIP, FLING!

Those things are shit. I don't know how they can make any of the claims they do. The only thing that stopped me taking it back and ramming it up the sales dude's nostril was that I bought it in Seattle on the way through to Italy... a US$37 taxi from downtown to the Apple Store in some freaky mall halfway to Redmond. Sheesh.

I bought an FM modulator that fits in-line with the antenna and broadcasts on FM. Volume is a bit lower than I'd like and it is FM quality, but ther eare no wires hanging around, everything is hidden and it works!

Yeah that kinda sucks for you. If it were me, I'd go digging around behind the stereo to see if there were any line-in jacks, and otherwise replace the stereo.
Seriously, the FM transmitter was that crap.

Okay,<br>cassette sound better, is better, as far as your car audio have a cassette deck. Mine only has a build-in CD player (CD eater in fact), so where does my cassette fit ? :-)
